The President of the United States should be removed from office

Recently, it has become inherently clear that President Donald Trump abused the highest executive branch office in this country in an attempt to force the Ukrainian government to launch an investigation against Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

I am not a supporter of Joe Biden’s presidential bid. I am supporting Elizabeth Warren’s bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, although I will support the Democratic presidential nominee in the general election. However, I am absolutely disgusted by Trump’s actions, which are at least arguably worse than the actions of then-President Richard Nixon and his henchmen during the 1972 Watergate break-in. No President, regardless of party affiliation, should ever extort a foreign government into acting like an opposition research firm for the President’s re-election campaign. Trump’s actions are a brazen abuse of the office of the U.S. President, undermine Ukrainian sovereignty, undermine Ukrainians’ faith in their criminal justice system, and completely dishonor the office of the U.S. President.

Earlier today, the U.S. Justice Department, which is under control of Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney General William “Bill” Barr, released what CBS News has referred to as a “transcript summary” of President Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelensky. The transcript summary is not, and should not be interpreted as, a verbatim transcript. While I encourage everyone to read the entire transcript summary, I’ll give y’all a one-sentence summary of the transcript summary: the transcript summary of Trump’s phone call with Zelensky clearly incriminates Trump.

I strongly encourage the United States Congress to impeach and remove President Trump from office.
